Do not rent from this landlord (Donna Hotchkiss)! She hasn’t fixed anything that has needed to be fixed since we moved in 8 months ago. She doesn’t have the house listed as a rental property with the city so she can save money on taxes plus the city has a list of safety issues she hasn’t attempted to fix. She had our water shut off. She called the day before the bill was due and told us we needed to pay it and she would drop off the bill to us. she never did! It doesn’t say anything in the lease requiring us to pay the water bill. Let me just shorten this all up by saying she is nothing but a CROOK! DO NOT...I REPEAT....DO NOT rent from DONNA HOTCHKISS.
My partner and I, leased property in Genoa City (Powers Lakes) Wisconsin from these two for two years from Craig Spang and Sue Spang, first in December of 2009 and continuing until we gave notice on October 21, 2011. After initially giving them 6 months advance rent, the mortgage holder filed a foreclosure action in June of 2010, 6 months after we signed the lease. Noted the foreclosure was eventually withdrawn by the mortgage company , after the homeowner paid the arrears, I assume. Did my landlord really use my rent and security deposit as his / her own personal bank account, rather than pay the mortage, is question that should be asked in this matter????
The landlord during the entire two year period never once conducted any on-site inspection of proeprty, and the hvac and water/well system was never serviced as part of a regular maintenance program. Even though we left the properly in excellent condtion, much better than we moved in, and took 250 pictures to show the condition we left it in, these two landlords are claiming we trashed the place. Of course, we recognize this as a ploy by them to claim the $1,600 security deposit they need to return. I recognize that this pair may be desperate to sell or the leaase the proeprty again, but it it looks like we are about to become this landlords victim all over again. Given the action of this landlord, it’s highly likely they would trash their own place to force someone to continue to pay them rent. While I cannot stop him from making his assertions and stating a claim in court, which will be highly contested, should they go there, I can certainly warn others of the scrupulous way in which this pair has acted and behaved during and after the term of this lease ended.
PATRICK WILL NOT FOLLOW THROUGH WITH ANY PROMISES HE MAKES. HE WILL RANDOMLY SHOW UP AT YOUR APARTMENT UNANNOUNCED. HE WON’T MAKE REPAIRS IN A TIMELY MATTER. IT’S ABSOLUTELY IMPOSSIBLE TO GET A HOLD OF HIM! HE ONLY CARES ABOUT HIMSELF - HE COULD CARE LESS ABOUT HIS TENANTS. HE’S THE DEFINITION OF A SLUMLORD! HE IS A PROFESSIONAL LIAR!!! STAY AWAY FROM THE SLUM!!!!
I moved into 1424 16 street NE in May 2011. The landlords name is Kyle McCowen. In August we were caught by surprise and realized bugs in our brand new bed and in our furniture. I have had that furniture for over 10 months in other apartments and have never experienced bites or seen bugs. We purchased are mattress while living there brand new and then it was quickly moved into by the bed bugs. I was so freaked I didn’t care for the legalities I also knew the landlord for this particular rental never did anything in a timely manner how I knew this was we had a plugged sink in the bathroom and a leaky kitchen faucet for over a month that occurred up-to 80.00 dollar charges in wasted water he finally fixed it and would not reimburse me the cost of the leak. So I took it upon myself to pay for an exterminator after two sprays and three months later the bed bugs have finally been exterminated along with the mattress, furniture, bedding and clothing I had to throw out. I lost over 1400.00 hundred dollars doing this. I later found out that it is the landlords responsibility despite of where the bugs came from here in Alberta they must pay for the procedure. I told Kyle this and he agreed with me and said out of the rent I can have one month free rent for my troubles and money lost it doesn’t cover all the expenses but at least it was some kind of reimbursement. Later that week he showed up at my door unannounced and said he wanted 300.00 out of the unpaid rent and has changed his mind about the full rent reimbursement for the bed bugs. I didnt give it to him he then started showing up with gifts again unannounced twice in a row so finally after enough harassment and black mail I gave him a 300.00 check post dated plus the following months rent. Now the major problem he has been avoiding since the cold weather hit is we don’t have heat he has made 101 reasons as to why it is so cold. He will not get the furnance ducts checked. He used silicon to cock the windows except instead of doing it outside he sealed the windows on the inside I reported this lazy job to the fire department and because we could not open the windows while being sealed in they said to remove the silicon immediately and call the health board about the lack of heat faulty furnance and due to all of this the uninhabitable heating conditions. Do not rent from this land lord.
